The National Press Club was once considered a bastion of serious political discourse, a place where the nation’s policies were scrutinized with at least a semblance of professional detachment. That era is dead. The recent stunt at Pauline Hanson’s address, where activists from GetUp were allowed to plant a banner, has stripped away the final veneer of neutrality. It wasn’t just a security failure, it was a manifestation of the rot that has set into our media establishment.

Footage of two individuals installing that banner well before the event confirms what many of us have known for years: this was an inside job. It is a logistical impossibility for such a stunt to occur without the full knowledge and complicity of NPC organizers. They didn’t just host the event; they enabled a coordinated ambush. This reveals the NPC for what it truly is: a partisan outfit of low-brow hackery that prioritizes ideological warfare over the supposed principles of journalism.

This event marks a turning point for One Nation. They now have carte blanche to treat the mainstream press with the contempt it has earned. The strategy moving forward must be total disengagement. Every time Hanson stands before a group of activists posing as journalists, she is walking into a trap set to farm clips and generate out-of-context soundbites for their struggling media channels.

She should stop answering their loaded, badgering questions immediately. Why validate their premise? Why play by the rules of a rigged game? Instead, she should walk to the podium, deliver a focused, disciplined policy speech, and walk out. If they want to play activist, let them stand there and listen to the truth without the opportunity to interrupt or steer the narrative.

The path forward is the total bypass of these legacy gatekeepers. By releasing statements, policy manifestos, and direct addresses straight to social media, One Nation can speak directly to the Australian people, completely stripping the media class of their power to frame the message. When the media realizes they have been rendered obsolete, that their access is non-essential and their outrage is irrelevant, they will be forced to either adjust their behaviour or continue their slide into complete obscurity.

Pandering to a hostile media is a losing battle. They aren’t looking for answers, they are looking for scalping’s. By starving them of the legitimacy they crave, One Nation don’t just defend the movement, they expose the institutional decline of those who think they hold the keys to public opinion. The NPC gambled their relevance for a cheap stunt, it is time for them to live with the consequences of total irrelevance.
